Local Youth

We support and make an impact to our local youth by providing opportunities for growth and recognition of achievements

There are several ways we do this, either through Rotary organised activities or specific events organised by the Rotary Club of Chatswood Roseville. The details are listed below.

We sponsor several local students to attend Rotary and other Organisation run events that provide leadership and training outside of the school curriculum.  Some of these are focused on the STEM area.   We also conduct a Model United Nations Assembly, mimicking the real United Nations, where many schools send teams to debate current issues.

Through our programs for emerging leaders, we’re also helping young people get the skills and experience they need to make a real difference in the lives of others. We offer both service clubs and programs to help students and young professionals strengthen their leadership skills, expand their world understanding, and make new friends.

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a seven-day transformational leadership program run by Rotary for young adults, 18-30, in North/North-West Sydney and the Central Coast. Designed to empower the next generation, this intensive summit uses inspiring stories, practical challenges, and supportive activities to help participants put their leadership potential into practice.

The program focuses on cultivating essential communication and interpersonal skills in a fun, encouraging environment. It aims to foster greater self-awareness, a strong sense of community, and valuable networking opportunities, empowering young leaders to develop both themselves and others.

RYLA is an inspiring program aimed at empowering Australia’s next generation of superstars. Meet life changing people, be enthralled by inspiring stories and develop skills through challenges and activities that put your leadership into practice, in a supportive and encouraging environment.

A week long experience for young adults who are in the early stages of their career or studies.

Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN)

The Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) is designed to resonate with the unique needs of today’s youth by providing a dynamic and supportive environment where teenagers can develop crucial life skills. In a world where academic performance is often emphasized, RYPEN recognises the importance of holistic growth. The program empowers young people to build self-confidence, enhance their communication and leadership abilities, and foster a sense of responsibility and teamwork. By addressing these essential skills, RYPEN helps students navigate the challenges of their future, whether in further education or the workplace, all while encouraging personal growth and community engagement.

The program is aimed at students who need help developing leadership, initiative, and responsibility skills and often lack opportunities for expansion.Teenagers today benefit greatly from opportunities to develop “life skills” and motivation to help them cope with the challenges of a very competitive future.

It is suitable for students in years 9/10 who are around 14-16 years old with undeveloped potential.

Pressure is put on students to perform academically and their results are the benchmark of success. However other skills are needed for the next stage of a student’s growth, be that further education or the workplace.

During an intensive residential weekend, young people will develop increased motivation, improved life skills, better self-image, pride in themselves and an understanding of setting and achieving goals.  At the same time, participants are interacting with peers from different backgrounds, and different parts of our district, improving their teamwork skills and having fun!!  All this done in an informal atmosphere, where questions and debates are encouraged.

National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)

The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) Year 12 Program gives students that are about to start year 12 a broader understanding of study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)

Science and Engineering Challenge

The Science & Engineering Challenge is a one day event designed to show Year 10 students that science isn’t just for nerds.

It can be fun so should be considered for their year 11 and 12 curriculum. Each school sends a team of 24-32 students to compete against teams from 7 other schools. The activities involve the involuntary application of principles of science, engineering and technology with a minimum of introduction and theory.

Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA)

The Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) is a significant international youth program sponsored by Rotary. Various schools attend a two day event and represent a country.  They debate a number of motions put forward, similar to the real United Nations.

Senior high school students, ages 15-19, develop an awareness of the United Nations and the countries they represent at a simulated UN Assembly. The event provides an excellent forum for students to develop and practice their public speaking skills whilst debating on topical world issues.

The Rotary Club of Chatswood Roseville will be organising Northern Sydney MUNA for the next three years, 2026-2028. For 2026, MUNA will be held on the weekend of 16th / 17th May at Roseville Public school.

To register for MUNA please use the following link. Please note schools can only be registered from 1 February 2026.

The Rotary Club of Chatswood Roseville Music Award

Over the last 19 years we have sponsored a music award among local schools who send some of their best musicians or singers to compete. The final is held at the Zenith Theater in Chatswood and provides the students with an opportunity to perform in front of a large audience.   Many of the winners of this award have gone on to study music at the Conservatorium and perform in various Symphony Orchestras.  First prize is awarded the Gordon Waterhouse Music Scholarship valued at $2,500.

Public Speaking and Essay Competition

Each year we provide the opportunity for year 4 students to speak on a current topic at one of our Rotary meetings. The night provides an opportunity for students to practice public speaking.

School Awards

Several schools in the region award Rotary Prizes at their end of year awards. Schools nominate the recipient based on all rounder achievements.

Science Experience

The Science Experience offers a three-day hands-on science experience for Year 9 and Year 10 students. Each program is designed to provide students who have an interest in science with an opportunity to engage in a wide range of fascinating science activities under the guidance of scientists who love their work.
